In 2005, the makers of Minute Maid and the Astros announced the Minute Maid Grand Slam For Youth Baseball Scholarship Program to assist greater Houston-area high school senior boys and girls with college expenses. Since the scholarship program inception, MMGSFYB has given more than 180 scholarships to Houston area high school seniors and 42% of these scholarships were awarded to first-generation students.

2018 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED:

Twenty-Five - $ 5,000 Scholarships Awarded

HOUSTON (June 23, 2018) – Minute Maid and the Houston Astros Foundation, announced the recipients of the 2018 Minute Maid Grand Slam for Youth Baseball Scholarships for high school seniors at a pre-game reception for recipients and their guests at Minute Maid Park, prior the June 23rd Astros game against the Kansas City Royals.

The 25 received scholarships of $5,000 that will assist with college expenses. The 25 students are represented by 12 boys and 13 girls and of the 25, 15 are first-generation college students. They are from 14 different cities and 15 school districts in Texas.

2018 marked the 14th year of the scholarship program and since inception, 329 scholarships and grants totaling more than $900,000 have been awarded.

Founded in 2002, Minute Maid Grand Slam For Youth Baseball:

  • Sponsors the Houston Parks and Recreation free baseball and softball program impacting more than 6,500 Houston area youth every year.
  • Donates Minute Maid juice and juice drink products to area baseball and softball leagues and teams as a fund-raising tool
  • Awards college scholarships and grants to qualified high school seniors in the greater Houston area.
