In 2005, the makers of Minute Maid and Astros In Action announced the Grand Slam For Youth Baseball Scholarship Program to assist greater Houston-area high school senior boys and girls with college expenses. In 2005, two $ 2,500 college scholarships went to a senior boy and girl participating in Houston's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. In 2006, Grand Slam for Youth Baseball gave four $ 2,500 and eight $ 500 scholarships to Houston area youth. In 2007, MMGSFYB funded 17 - $ 2,500 scholarships, 7 of these scholarships were first-generation recipients. 2008 saw the largest group of MMGSFYB scholarship recipients, with 20, $2,500 Scholarships awarded, of which 8 were first-generation.

GRAND SLAM FOR YOUTH BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED:
A Record 25 Finalists Are Awarded $2,500 Scholarships

Minute Maid, in partnership with the Houston Astros, announced the 2009 Grand Slam for Youth Baseball (GSFYB) scholarship recipients at the June 27th Astros game. In a pre-game ceremony on the field at Minute Maid Park, a record 25 finalists received scholarships of $2,500, which will assist these young men and women with college expenses. The 2009 25 recipients broke the previous 2008 record of 20 recipients.

Among the 25 recipients are 12 first-generation students (first in their families to attend college).
