THE MINUTE MAID GRAND SLAM FOR YOUTH BASEBALL
2014 SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

City League Sponsorship 2014

More than 6,000 boys and girls enjoyed learning about and playing baseball at NO CHARGE through the partnership between the Houston Parks and Recreation Department community centers and the Minute Maid Grand Slam For Youth Baseball program.

Through a MMGSFYB grant, fifty-eight (58) HPARD community centers and the KIPP Explore Academy were able to provide t-shirts, hats and equipment in addition to umpires for MMGSFYB league instruction and play. Coach and player clinics were also provided by the Astros Urban Youth Academy.

On Saturday, May 17, 2000 of these MMGSFYB participants and their families descended upon the HPARD Andy Anderson baseball/softball field complex to celebrate the end of the season and enjoyed running, pitching and hitting games. Astros icon Jimmy Wynn and current superstar, George Springer, were on hand to take pictures. Orbit was also running around having fun with the kids. After the event, everyone was treated to James Coney Island hotdogs and refreshing Minute Maid products.
